Ain't Love A Beach
© 1998 Mark Mulligan

The dolphins play and the seagulls fly
The fish start jumping and the pelicans dive
They’re putting on a show for you and me
We’ve got front row seats at the edge of the sea

I still recall the first time that I met you
Here by the bay back in ninety two
You spoke a little English you learned in school
It didn’t take long to fall in love with you

And I said sweet Anna Marie
Won’t you go out with me
You smiled and said we’ll see
Ain’t love a beach

I kissed you on the shore one summer night
The tide was low and the moon was bright
I held you in my arms til the light of day
And knew that I’d given my heart away

You closed your eyes and I took your hand
Got down on my knee in the soft white sand
I knew that life would never be the same
The moment I said I want to change your name

I said sweet Anna Marie
Girl, won’t you marry me
I’ve been waiting so patiently
Ain’t love a beach

The church bells rang in the old town square ‘
All of our family and friends were there
Then we built a little house on that sandy shore
Heaven was just outside our door

Now we don’t have much but we sure have fun
Living every day under golden sun
We dance across the water in the afternoon
On a little red boat it’s a party of two

Clear blue water and a painted sky
The waves roll in and the days go by
Someday girl, I’ll be old and gray
But I swear I ain’t never gonna go away

‘Cause I see sweet Anna Marie
Walking hand in hand with me
I’m as happy as a man can be
Ain’t love a beach

I’m as happy as a man can be
Ain’t love a beach
